花岡央さんの作品の中では珍しい、クリアガラスでつくられた「pekoe」。

ふっくらと丸みを帯びたフォルムの一部を、名前のとおり“ぺこっ”と凹ませた、愛嬌のあるかたちが印象的です。

この凹みは見た目のアクセントになるだけでなく、手に取るとちょうど親指がすっと収まり、自然と手になじむデザイン。丸みのあるガラスを包み込むように、心地よく持つことができます。

色をまとわない透明なガラスだからこそ、光を受けたときの揺らぎや陰影、吹きガラスならではのやわらかなフォルムがより際立ちます。

Clear Glass That Fits Naturally in Your Hand

“pekoe” is a rare clear-glass piece among Hiroi Hanaoka’s works.

Its softly rounded form is gently pressed inward on one side—hence the name “pekoe,” inspired by the Japanese expression peko, meaning a small dent or indentation.

The indentation is not only a charming visual detail. When held, your thumb fits naturally into it, making the piece comfortable and easy to hold.

Because the glass is completely clear, the subtle movement of light, delicate shadows, and the soft curves unique to blown glass stand out all the more beautifully.

Simple yet enjoyable both to look at and to hold, “pekoe” is a piece that brings together Hanaoka’s playful sensibility and thoughtful functionality.
