連子格子から生まれた「ren」

京都の町家などに見られる「連子格子（れんじごうし）」から着想を得た、花岡央さんを代表する「ren」シリーズ。

色ガラスと透明なガラスが交互に重なり、連子格子のような美しい縦のラインを描きます。光を受けるたびにガラスの色や縞模様が表情を変え、器を通して見える料理や飲み物、周囲の景色までも美しく映し出します。

renの魅力のひとつが、豊かな色彩。同じかたちでも色が変わるだけで印象は大きく異なり、食卓に置いたときの景色もさまざまです。料理や季節、その日の気分に合わせて、装いを選ぶように色を選ぶ楽しさがあります。

ABOUT “ren”

The “ren” series is one of glass artist Hiroi Hanaoka’s signature collections, inspired by *renji-goshi*—traditional vertical latticework often seen in Kyoto’s historic *machiya* townhouses.

Alternating layers of colored and clear glass create the distinctive vertical lines of the series. As light passes through the glass, its colors and patterns subtly shift, bringing different expressions to the piece depending on the light and its surroundings.

One of the defining characteristics of “ren” is its rich variety of colors. Even the same form can take on an entirely different character depending on the color, creating a different atmosphere at the table. Choosing a color to suit the food, the season, or simply your mood is part of the pleasure of this series.

Enjoy the transparency of the glass and the delicate shadows and reflections created by the colored glass as it catches the light.
